On our way back from Key West… we decided to stop in to The Breaker Hotel in West Palm Beach and have some lunch. It was a perfect idea, because we got there around 2pm (even with the time change!)

We toured the historic hotel and really enjoyed the ceilings in the event rooms. Each room had a different theme and eccentric design. It’s amazing these works of art were done in the early 1900’s.

Of course while we were touring we took some pictures of the ocean front view as boats crossed the landscape. To continue the ocean front theme, we had a window view during our lunch.

They had something new, raspberry lemonade, which I thought was really good. I’m sure it had more sugar in it than I would have liked.

Lunch included a Green Salad and some Fried Zucchini… when I saw that on the menu it reminded me of the Fried Zucchini I had at Carrabba’s and wanted to taste the difference. It was just as good.

Just after 8pm tonight we made it home to a breezy night in Palm Coast. I still had my shorts on from Key West and was freezing while we were unloading the car.  I warmed up and managed to make a quick dinner of Fresh Vegetable Salad while we watched 2 & a Half Men.

I was on a mission Sunday afternoon to find Turtle Kraal Restaurant. I saw on the Food Network sometime ago a restaurant in the Keys or the Caribbean that served world famous Turtle Soup. And since we were in the Keys I was on a quest. Well everyone I asked directed me to Turtle Kraal and laughed doing so. Well I thought they were just happy go lucky people, little did I know that since 1972 it’s been outlawed to eat Turtle meat. So the restaurant I was looking for was not in Key West.!!

BUT we found Turtle Kraal Restaurant and enjoyed lunch on the deck overlooking all the boats and Pelicans in the water before us. I had some Nachos without Cheese and Cream Cheese and a couple glasses of white wine. Plus I ate Mike’s Carrots and Celery from his Chicken Wings order.

While we were there.. I spent my time trying to take pictures of Pelicans, because along the way I’ve developed somewhat of a fetish for taking pictures of Pelicans. They are such an intriguing bird… they are interesting to me.

Then we decided to take the Conch Train Tour around town…. and saw some familiar places like the Hemmingway House, Sloppy Joes, and saw some new sights of Key West we had never seen before.

Before we made it to launch at Turtle Kraal’s we stopped in at the Westin to inquire about the Sunset Dinner on Sunset Key. It’s an Island off the Keys and requires a boat ride, so we scheduled a 6:45pm dinner reservation, which meant we needed to be at the Pier by 6pm. Sunset Key, is an exclusive Island occupied by Westin Hotel guests and dinner guests at Latitudes Restaurant.

Being shuttled from the pier to the island, and then being sat at our table outside on the beach was a dreamlike experience. Such a pleasant view of the boats all around us and the sunset on the horizon. Our meal was fabulous as well; I had an Onion Soup (took the bread and cheese out of the cup) and Green Salad. I accompanied my food with a couple of glasses of white wine and then after we got back to Key West Island… Mike headed straight into an Ice Cream shop where he ordered me an Ice Cream Cone 😦

It’s so hard to stay strong and not eat bad, when everywhere you look people are eating Ice Cream Cones, and other not good for the diet foods!

We decide to leave Saturday for a weekend getaway to the Keys.. not realizing it was the weekend before St. Patrick’s Day. But Key West wasn’t as busy as I thought it would be.

Regardless, we made our way south on I-95. Me sleeping for the first leg of the trip until we stopped in Palm Bay for lunch at Wendy’s. I had the Southwest Salad without the Chili or Cheese(I had to pick the cheese off myself!)

Then it was back to the roadtrip south. I made sure to pack some trailmix, which I made myself because I knew I would get the munchies. So I mixed up some Dried Cranberries, Raisins, Almonds and Pecans to munch on the drive to Key West.

While we were driving, we reserved a hotel room at the Marriott Courtyard. It’s not the Ritz Carlton, but it was nice anyway! We got settled and freshened up and left for downtown Key West for some dinner. We found a place on Duval Street called the Borttegga, which was on the quiet end of Duval. I had a Glass of White Wine and a Green Salad. I really enjoy eating salads these days… and they’re quite fullfilling.!!! After dinner, we decided to walk around Duval Street and I found an Ice Cream place. Jokingly, I dragged Mike into to pressure him into buying something and it turns out, I was the one getting pressured. He didn’t even budge. So I was the one walking around with Two Scoops of Ice Cream.

I begged Mike for a warm weather weekend excursion… and I got a trip to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale, only to find out it wasn’t as warm as I thought it would be.

We had enough of the cold and snow from up north and when we drove back down to Florida, it was still cold. So I thought, a trip south would warm us up. But temps in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale were only 10 degrees warmer putting them in the 60’s 😦

Regardless, we hit the road Saturday morning and I packed the left over Hibachi Vegetables for lunch which I ate as soon as I got in the car. I did manage to juice two Carrot, Celery, Spinach, Apple drinks with the new VitaMix Juicer, and I made a Fruit Smoothie too!

Dinner was the usual Pier 66 culinary excursion. The food, atmosphere, and service are so amazing, it’s always a treat to go there. Each time I go there, I get the same Green Salad with out any Feta Cheese and this weekend Oil and Vinegar instead of their creamy dressing.  To spice things up I added a Baked Potato too in addition to a couple of Glasses of White Wine.

Sunday we got up to head down to Miami and found out the Food Networks Wine & Food Festival was taking place on the beach in South Beach. We decided to have lunch on Lincoln Street at a Rustic Pizza Restaurant we visited in November with my cousins when they came in town for the cruise. Mike and I split a 16″ medium pizza.

Rustic Pizza Vegetable Pizza

Rustic Pizza Vegetable Pizza

My half was the Vegetable side with no Cheese on a Wheat crust and Mike’s side was the Mushroom Pizza with Cheese.

Then we continued walking toward the Ocean, where we scoped out the Wine & Food Festival. It turns out, in order to get on the beach to walk around and sample wines, foods, etc. we had to pay $230 per person. A price a little to steep for a couple of hours of testing.! So we went across the street and sat at The Carlyle and had Daquiries and an appetizer dish of Chips and Calamari.

Sunday Morning was a tough ride home….. tooo many Daquiries last night and a bad diet all around. We stopped at Einstein Bros. Bagels for a Whole Grain Bagel with Butter and the middle scooped out and to drink I got a Frozen Mocha Latte.  As we were driving north, I begged Mike to stop in Palm Beach, to see how the other half lives.

Palm Beach Ocean View

We drove up along Ocean Ave (A1A) and saw the mansions facing the ocean and then we stopped at the Breakers Hotel. It’s where some of the “Heartbreakers” movie was filmed. And the hotel is also supposed to be a famous, historic resort as well.

Further north we stopped outside of Titusville for lunch, which turned out to be Long John Silver’s Fish and Fries Combo with a couple of Hush Puppies. I’m still having feedback from all that grease I ate earlier.

But hopefully all my bad choices were canceled out with this evenings Vegetable Salad I made

I’m really lovin’ this walking every morning. It’s very invigorating. I’m noticing muscles forming and my body getting tighter. It’s not even hard anymore to wake up at 6:30 am or 7:30am to get dressed and hit the road, even with temps in the lower 40’s and 30’s.

The walking is great cardiovascular and it also helps clear my mind to remind me of what I need to do that day.  And Wednesday, I had a Dental Appointment to get my teeth cleaned. Afterwards, I decided to do a little grocery shopping to pick up some odds and ends to last me until Friday before we hit the road for D.C.

I stopped into a couple of little boutiques and bought some things for the house… and headed home for a Green Salad and Minestrone Soup Lunch. I finally finished off the Salad I made earlier in the week (because Mike doesn’t eat the salads I make!) and ate a bowl of My Minestrone Soup with Whole Wheat Bread Slices.

While I was eating, I had the chance to sit down and watch another Old movie on TMC Wednesday Afternoon. This one was a movie with Lucille Ball and Dezi Arnez. Right now, I can’t remember the name of it, but it also had James Mason in it. Cute movie.!!!

For dinner, I had the chance to make this White Bean Soup I had my eye on since the beginning of the week. I’ve wanted to make a soup with some beans in it, and the White Bean Soup sounded really good. I ended up using the White Beans in the Minestrone Soup and again for the White Bean Soup. Another bonus for this recipe was, that I realized I had frozen some Vegetable Soup Stock and needed to use it.

I warmed up the remaining slices of the Whole Wheat Bread and waited until Mike made his Cucumber, Tomato Salad with Lemon Dressing.

It seems as if I’m on a self-destructive path to destroy what I’ve been doing for the last 5 months. I obsess about foods I know I shouldn’t be eating, like Hershey’s Chocolate Bars, Cheese Pizzas, and Ice Cream. And every piece of food I look at, regardless of the nutritional value, I have this overwhelming desire to eat it!

I know that I have a goal to lose weight and become a healthier person, but my alter ego steps in and just wants to eat everything in sight. The worst part, I don’t know why I’m being so ravenous about food now, whereas before, I couldn’t care less!

I’ve been walking 30 to 45 minutes every morning for about a week… and doing piloxing too. Maybe I’m working my body and this urge is my body’s way of getting food. I think now I need to learn to eat better foods, and not the sugars and other BAD foods in front of me.

I did pretty well for lunch today; I ate my Green Salad I made the other day with some Whole Wheat Bread.  I had a late start to drinking my Carrot, Beet, Celery and Apple Juice and after I did so, I snacked on Organic Flax Maple Pecan Crunch.

Then for dinner, Mike and I went to Carraba’s Italian Restaurant where I had a Mediterranean Salad with Oil and Vinegar and Riggotti Martino with Tomato Red Sauce. Plus I had a glass and a half of White Wine.

Now I’m drinking my second Carrot, Celery, Beet and Apple Juice….
