Archive for January 2nd, 2010

I woke up this Saturday morning, bound and determined to go to a pilates class. I had enough of laying around. My body and muscles were atrophying! When I woke up around 8:30am I turned on the T.V. and watched a movie (Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood). As the next movie started (27 Dresses) I got up to make myself an Avocado Sandwich.

I went downstairs to put two slices of Whole Grain Wheat Bread (from Whole Foods) into the oven to toast. While I was waiting for the bread to toast, I mixed my Barley Max and drank it. Then, I spread a bit of “I can’t believe it’s not butter” onto the bread, sliced up the Avocados, placed them on each piece and lightly salted with Sea Salt. Yum Yum Yum!

By the time I ate my quick feast, it was time to start getting ready for my Pilates class. I actually scheduled the class last night, so I was financially obligated to attend the 11am Beginners Class. And the whole time I was getting ready, I was very worried how my back would feel in class, because it wasn’t 100% yet. There’s still some stiffness and pain when I move and walk. But I am feeling more flexible and mobile, even after walking around in those high heals yesterday.

I certainly remembered what happened last week when I was feeling better. I did something, or it was a combination of my activities that I reinjured my back. And I wasn’t looking for a repeat of that. So in the class, first thing I did was let the instructor know I have some back issues and I was very hesitant and slow to make any of the moves. But as the class progressed, I was making my moves more confidently and putting more effort and energy into each move. To say the least, I am surprised at how flexible I was without the pain I was expecting!

And as I type these words, my back is still feeling good after taking the pilates class. I am laying on the heating pad for a bit, just as a precaution!:)

I did snack on some Pita Chips and Hummus again and did drink my Vedge Vegetable drink from BoltHouse. It’s a great combination of 7 Vegetables (kinda like a v-8 juice drink). We picked that up the day before at Whole Foods. I’m trying to drink 2-8oz glasses a day.

For dinner I got up and made a Broccoli Noodles where I just cut up some Mushrooms, Broccoli and Boiled Noodles we bought at Whole Foods. I threw in the Broccoli and Mushroom to blanche with the Noodles. The Dressing was an Oil, Dried Onions, Paprika, Sea Salt, Corriander Seasoning.

Happy New Year… it’s finally 2010!!!! No more preparations or resolutions to contend with. Because, I’m not much of a new year’s resolution person. I’ve learned not to make any promises I couldn’t or wasn’t going to keep. So, these days, I begin everyday with the hope and inspiration of improving myself and the world I live in from the day before.

With that said, I suggested to Mike, lets go out and take in the first day of the New Year. In the car, Mike and I decided to drive down Highway 7 to see where the road took us. We ended up at Whole Foods, where I loaded up on some ingredients I remembered from a grocery list I made for some dessert recipes out of my cookbook. I didn’t have the list with me, so I hope I got all of them. Because I don’t remember where that Whole Foods is!

From there, it turned out to be a day of shopping. We went to the Dollar Store, Target and finally, Leesburg Outlet Mall. But before we went to the outlet, we needed some nutritional sustenance. Panera Bread filled that void, where I usually get a soup and salad meal. But today, I opted for the Mediterranean Vegetable Sandwich on Tomato Basil Bread with my standby Garden Vegetable Soup.

After lunch, we stopped at Calvin Klein, then I headed into Coach and we pretty much wrapped that spree up. For no other reason then my shoes, they were not the shoes to be wearing for a day of shopping. On the way home, I was thinking about eating the Vegetable Salad from the night before and that’s exactly what happened.

I did finally manage to drink my Barley Max before this meal. Lately, I’ve been doing really badly with taking my Barley Max 30 minutes before my meals. I’m lucky if I take it a few minutes before I eat. Truth be told, since I’ve been on the road during the holidays these last two months, my schedule and dedication to “RawtoLose 40 eating plan” has really deteriorated. It’s a totally different eating plan than what I started September 1, 2009. Hopefully, going into this New Year, I can get back on track with the Juicing, Barley Max, and preparing more of my own meals.

Finally here… I decided in the afternoon to go get a mani/pedi and my hair washed and styled, while Mike went to a business meeting. I ended up having Mike pick me up from Macy’s because I wanted to pick up a little half jacket to wear with my dress.  Hair styled and final touches made to my outfit, I was ready to leave. Well, it was still raining outside and I asked Mike to pick me up from Macy’s instead of where I was dropped off. And the only place he could find to pick me up required me to walk in the rain to get to the car. Men they don’t get it.

Not eating anything all day, at around 4:30pm I made this great Vegetable Salad with an amazingly fresh Oil & Vinegarette  Dressing. I had to chop up the remaining veggies in the bowl, because they started going bad.

Vegetable Salad:

1 Red Bell Pepper

1Orange Bell Pepper

1 Small Head of Broccoli

1 Tomato

1 Avocado

1/4 Can of Chick Peas

Oil & Vinegarette Dressing:

Olive Oil

Balsamic Vinegarette

Paprika

Dried Onions

Sea Salt

Both Mike and I were eating the salad (he was by the way was on his 3rd glass of wine)and I asked what are we doing tonight.?  Well that led to continued arguing about the festivities of the night. And I was getting pissed because all of our options were selling out fast and I really had my heart set on The Kennedy Center. There was a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra and then the Ball Drop Party to follow.

But his indecision didn’t stop me from getting ready, afterall, I bought not one but two dresses, got my mani/pedi, had my hair styled and I didn’t want it to be all for nothing! Given he was drinking already, I had to wake him up off the sofa and make him get ready.

New Year's Eve 09

Dressed for New Year's Eve 09

We both put our indifferences aside and got ready… Here’s picture of me in my dress for the evening. After we took pictures, we headed out the door! Mike was on the way to the Ritz-Carlton (where dinner and ball drop were sold out) I said, I want to go to the Kennedy Center!

It was quarter til 8pm and the N.S.O. started performing at 8:30pm… we were cutting it close. It didn’t help that Mike got lost and took a couple of wrong turns(blowing my top at this point)! We made it to the Kennedy Center, I got out and ran to the box office to buy two tickets to the sold out performance. After 5 minutes of waiting, they rangled up two $90 dollar tickets  and I called Mike to park the car. We were 15 minutes late by the time we finally sat down in our seats to a performance we both ended up enjoying.!!!

Both so hungary, we went upstairs to the Terrace Restaurant and realized it’s 11pm and the New Year’s Eve Menu was a 4 course meal. After we sat down at the table with my Frangellico on the rocks in hand I ordered at the bar, we decided we were never gonna make it back downstairs in time for the clock to strike midnight.  So, we opted for the cocktail lounge for something quick. Mike ordered the Seafood Martini, I ordered a Salad and the Vegetable Ratatoullie (which was great!) and had 10 minutes to spare before the clock hit 12. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

In an effort to be totally upright and in some to virtually no pain New Year’s Eve, I stayed in bed as much as possible Wednesday and then on Thursday…. I needed to pick up some things for our big night out to The Kennedy Center.

So, Mike had some business to do and I took his son shopping. He got some stuff and I got the stuff I wanted, we did some window-shopping. Amazingly enough, we had some fun together. We followed our big day up with a late lunch and early dinner at the Olive Garden. I got my usual Minestrone Soup and Salad. I did manage to eat three Bread Sticks. 😦

Later that night, while I retired to the bed and heating pad, Mike enticed me with some Sherbet…. which was great!!!!
